Hamot Aid Society

The Hamot Aid Society was founded in 1906 and currently has a membership of 250 volunteers. The mission of the Hamot Aid Society is to support the needs of Hamot, its patients and guests through volunteer service, education and fundraising.

Volunteer Services

Volunteers serve in various areas of hospital operations including Ambulatory Surgery Center, Endoscopy, Gift Shop, Hamot Health Connection, Information Desk, Medical Library, Occupational Therapy, Orthopaedic Clinic, Outpatient Registration, Patient Services, Patient Mail Services, Patient Room Service and Wellness Center. These volunteers contribute more than 13,000 volunteer hours a year to Hamot Medical Center.

Medical Education Assistance Fund

The Hamot Aid Society has been granting interest-free loans to students for graduate or undergraduate course work relative to the medical field since 1959. The loan, a maximum of $4,000 per student, is given for tuition only and is paid directly to the school.

Community Health Education

Educational activities illustrate Hamot Aid Society's far-reaching impact on the community. Community health education programs include the annual Healthy Woman Seminar, which provides area women with the opportunity to obtain valuable health care information from area and national experts. The annual Children's Health Fair provides area third graders with important health and safety information. Members volunteer to coordinate and staff these events annually.

Fundraising

In addition to proceeds from the Hamot Gift Shop, pledge commitments have been met through such activities as raffles, uniform, candle, purse and book sales. All proceeds from fundraising projects are used to purchase modern medical equipment and to fund programs and activities conducted throughout the Hamot Health Foundation. The society is currently engaged in a $1 million dollar pledge to the Women & Children's Hospital on the Hamot Campus.
