Ultrasound
Ultrasound is the use of high frequency sound waves directed into the body. A transducer transmits the sound waves and receives echoes back from body tissues. The different tissues and substances in the body produce different wave echoes. A computer creating images processes these waves. The images are interpreted by a radiologist and results reported back to the referring physician. Ultrasound performs diagnostic, therapeutic and interventional procedures on inpatients and outpatients. The diagnostic procedures include abdominal, pelvic, obstetrics, breast and vascular studies. Other ultrasound procedures include various types of drainages and biopsies.
